STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN / RankWire.AI / – Sweden’s industrial sector experienced a 1.5% decrease in output in June compared to the previous year, according to official statistics. Additionally, production dipped 0.4% from May after seasonal adjustments. Statistics Sweden reported that the Industrial Production Value Index was at 112.4, down from 112.9 in May. This June figure follows a revised 7.6% year-on-year increase in May, indicating a clear reversal from the strong growth seen the previous month.

Manufacturing output fell 1.0% compared to June 2025 and declined 0.4% from May. Mining and quarrying saw a sharper drop, decreasing 13.8% annually, with output in that segment also down 3.3% from May. Industry accounts for 20.2% of Sweden’s overall private-sector production measure, with manufacturing making up most of that share, contributing 19.4 percentage points of the total weight.
Despite the decline in June, industrial activity remained elevated over the second quarter. The average output from April through June increased 4.0% compared to the same period in 2025. On a seasonally adjusted basis, production rose 4.8% from the previous three months. Sweden’s private-sector production overall also grew in June, up 0.4% from May and 1.8% from the same month last year.

Services output decreased slightly by 0.2% from May but remained 3.0% above June 2025 levels. Construction activity increased by 2.0% for the month and was 7.6% higher than a year earlier. The services index stood at 111.9, compared with 112.1 in May, while construction moved up to 94.9 from 93.0. Services make up 67.2% of the broader production metric, with construction representing 8.4%.
Separate data from Statistics Sweden highlighted a significant rise in new industrial orders during June. Total orders increased by 32.3% from May after seasonal adjustment. On a calendar-adjusted basis, they were 29.9% higher than in June 2025. Export orders surged 56.5% from May and 57.6% from the previous year. Domestic orders remained roughly unchanged from May but declined 7.4% annually.
Transport equipment leads exports amid order increases
Transport equipment experienced the most significant growth among key industrial order categories. Orders in this sector rose 101.0% from May and 118.2% compared to June 2025. Manufacturing orders increased 33.2% on the month and 31.2% annually. Capital-goods orders grew 45.5% from May and 50.7% year on year. Conversely, mining and quarrying orders declined, falling 1.8% monthly and 19.0% annually.
Looking at the first half of 2026, total industrial orders surpassed those of the same period in 2025 by 4.0%. Export orders during this span increased by 6.6%. The indicators for production and orders track different facets of industrial activity—while the Production Value Index monitors output changes at constant prices, the orders series reflects new demand from both domestic and international clients.
